Song of Solomon 1:1-4

22 February 2019

[1:1-4] This is Solomon’s song of songs.  The Song begins with kisses.  Verse 2 says, “Kiss me and kiss me again, for your love is sweeter than wine.”  The kiss is a very personal and meaningful expression of love.  Not only is it personal, but it is a pledge of peace.  A symbol of safety and security.  Marriage is a gift from God.  Whenever a couple is united in Holy Matrimony it is a symbol of this kind of peace.  A peaceful covenant that is sealed with a kiss. Love is better than wine; it brings joy to your heart.  Oh, to get to the place in our married life and our spiritual life where we rejoice with joy unspeakable.

The fragrance of scented oils is a picture of death; Christ laying down His life for mankind.  The bride pleads in verse 4a, “Take me with you, come, let’s run!  The King has brought me into his bedroom…” What a beautiful reminder of Christ’s relationship to the redeemed.  It is Christ who draws mankind to himself.  It is Christ who brings us into a personal relationship with Himself.  Because of this, believers can experience great love, excitement, and joy in this personal relationship.
