[40] God comforts His people because He is a personal God. Verse 1 begins by saying, “'Comfort, comfort
my people,’ says your God.” God tells
Jerusalem that their sins have been pardoned.
The people are reminded that they are like grass; mankind will wither
and die. Only the gospel gives eternal
life to man. The Gospel is evident in verse
9 whenever it says, “O Zion, the messenger of good news, shout from the
mountaintops! Shout it louder, O Jerusalem.
Shout, and do not be afraid. Tell
the towns of Judah, ‘Your God is Coming!’”
Verse 12-22 speaks of the greatness of God. God has no equal… “Has the Lord ever needed
anyone’s advice? Does He need instruction
about what is good?”
God sees man’s trouble in verse 28, “…the Lord is the Everlasting God,
the creator of all the Earth. He never
grows weak or weary. No one can measure
the depths of his understanding.”
The chapter ends with an inspirational word, “Those who trust in the
Lord will find new strength. They will soar
high on wings like eagles. They will run
and not grow weary. They will walk and
not faint.”
