Isaiah 1:19-2:22

29 March 2019

[1:19-2:22] God wants the people to know that when they obey the Lord, they will have plenty.  He is showing them that whenever they are submissive to Him; they will not be devoured by the sword of their enemies.  His judgment is steady and stable.  His judgment is not harsh and abrupt.  Judgment is a result of a life lived in sin.  Verse 24-26 says, “…I will take revenge on my enemies and pay back my foes!... Jerusalem will again be called the Home of Justice and the Faithful City.”

The beginning of chapter 2 is talking about God’s future reign.  Verse 2 says, “In the last days, the mountain [kingdom – Daniel 2:35, Revelation 17:9, Revelation 13:1] of the Lord’s house will be the highest of all – the most important place on earth.  I will be raised above he other hills, and the people from all over the world will stream there to worship.”  He is referring to the Great Tribulation Period and His Kingdom that is to be set up on the earth.  Government and religion will be centered in Jerusalem [Isaiah 2:3].   This will be a time of peace; there will be no war.  Verse 5 emphasizes that the only way to walk in peace is to, “…walk in the light of the Lord!”

“Human pride will be brought down, and human arrogance will be humbled.  Only the Lord will be exalted on that day of judgment. For the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has a day of reckoning.  He will punish the proud and mighty and bring down everything that is exalted.”  Isaiah 2:11-12 God will bring down prideful man and all that it places its glory in  society, government, military, commerce, art, and idols.  Mankind will be frightened and try to escape from God.  Verse 19 says, “When the Lord rises to shake the earth, his enemies will crawl into holes in the ground.  They will hide in caves in the rocks from the terror of the Lord and the glory of his majesty.”
