Boone Hall + Patriots Point

22 October 2014

We went to the Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens today. The covered drive was so beautiful.  Just as southern as you'd expect.

We were able to take a guided house tour. The interior was just lovely and it was full of beautiful antiques.   This is the location where they filmed several movies including {North and South} and {The Notebook}.

Here is one of the {slave houses} on the property. This house was one of many were the salves would have lived with their family and probably another family. They were VERY small and had a single fireplace in the center of the building.   One of the houses was displaying artifacts that were found buried in the ground {under the the floorboards}.  It was amazing to see how the people lived and tried to survive on what little they would have been given from the plantation owners.

After {Boone Hall Plantation} we went to Patriots Point. We toured the USS Yorktown.

The hanger was full of interesting airplanes and Jeremiah was able to "fly" one. Not really!!!  Hahaha. But he was able to sit in one and look at all the interesting gears and gadgets.

It's so amazing to think that our soldiers are able to focus on flying a plane or doing their assigned job, while trying to accomplish their mission and come back alive. It's historic places like this that make us so very grateful for {our freedom}. So grateful for the {men and women who  have fought} for our freedom. So thankful for {men and women who have given their lives} so we can be free.
