Song of Solomon 2:1-7

28 February 2019

[2:1-7] The Young Man calls himself the Rose of Sharon and the Lily of the Valley.  He is comparing himself to the humblest flowers of that land.  He is presenting himself as a delightful and beautiful flower that is not necessary but is lovely and enjoyable.  He says that his bride stands out among the daughters of Jerusalem.  She stands out because she belongs to the King and reflects the King.

The Bride compared her Groom to the apple tree.  She found rest and shade under the tree.  The sweet fragrance of the tree and sweetness of the fruit is good for the Bride.  The banquet hall was full of lavish foods and abundant satisfaction.  As the Bride, she could partake of all the things the King provides.  Verse 4b says, “…it’s obvious how much he loves me.”  What a beautiful statement of the security she found in her marriage with the King.  Song of Solomon 2:6, “His left arm is under my head, and his right arm embraces me.” This is a wonderful picture of intimacy and affection between the groom and his bride.  Marriage is the perfect place to express this type of intimacy in a relationship.  Marriage is the right time to awaken love!
