[3:1-5] The Christian life is about living out Christ. Paul tells the church at Colosse in verse 1, “Since
you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities
of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand.” Paul was telling the believers to desire
things above [to seek the things of Christ].
Christ is alive! He is at God’s
right hand. Whenever believers seek Jesus,
they are seeking a real, living being.
Believers in Jesus Christ should set their affections on things above…
because they have died to their earthly life. Verse 3b says, “…your real life
is hidden with Christ in God.” Whenever we
live like this, Christ will be revealed to the whole world. He tells them, “So put to death the sinful,
earthly things lurking within you!” To
put sin to death takes deliberate and focused attention to killing the sinful
nature. It is important to not get close
to sin. Whatever part of your body is sinning, cut it off! Get rid of it! Kill it!
Believers bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit and we should honor God
with our bodies, minds, desires, words, and our entire being.
