[3-4] Jude was ready to write his friends a letter about theology but had to change directions. The Bible doesn’t specify what he was initially going to write about, but it makes clear that his letter [must] be changed. He felt the urgency to notify his friends to [defend the faith]. He warns that false teachers [worm their way into your churches]. It’s important to understand that false teachers are not going to come announcing their falsehood. No, instead, they are sneaky. It is something that may happen very slowly and slippery. There are many times throughout the New Testament where writers give warning to [watch out for false teachers]. Examples of this can be found in 2 Corinthians 11:13, Acts 20:29, and 2 Timothy 3:6. In this case, Jude accuses these false teachers of two doctrinal errors. The first, distorting the grace of God and the second, denying Jesus Christ.
